John William Moore
MOORE,  John William Moore, 77 years of age, entered into eternal rest on July 18, 2003. A native of Summerville and a life-long parishioner of St. John the Beloved Roman Catholic Church, Mr. Moore was born August 25, 1925, the son of Alexander Moore and Ann Ray Moore. A graduate of the Summerville school system, Mr. Moore was a combat veteran of World War II, having served in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters of war and retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard after 44 years employment as a master and apprentice instructor machinist. He was a lifetime member of the N. Lynch Council of the Knights of Columbus and a founding member of the Dorchester Boat Club. A lifetime fisherman of renown, he was, after his retirement, an oral history resource for student and scholars of the history and lore of Summerville and the Navy Yard. Mr. Moore is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Marianne Knowles Moore, a daughter, Marianne Moore Read; four sons, John Alexander Moore, Michael O'Conner Moore, Timothy William Moore, and Thomas Patrick Moore; and three grandchildren, Justin O'Conner Moore, Alexandra Clair Moore, and Alison Brynn Moore. Also surviving him are his sisters, Mildred Moore Geilfuss and Jeanette Moore Bowers, and brothers, Charles O'Conner Moore and Arthur Morrow Moore. Visitation is from 6 - 9 PM Sunday, July 20, 2003 and the rosary will be said for Mr. Moore at 7 PM taking place at Parks Funeral Home in Summerville, SC. Requiem Mass will be 9 AM Monday, July 21, at St. John the Beloved Catholic Church, in Summerville, with interment at Live Oak Memorial Gardens, in Charleston County.
